The Pulse of the Community, Conscious of the Culture

Recent conversations circulating on social media have raised concerns about alleged targeting of Black-owned businesses in McDonough by former Councilwoman Kam Varner and the City of McDonough Police Department. However, after conducting our own investigation and speaking directly with local business owners, Game Changers Media Network has found no verified evidence supporting these claims.

Business Owners Clarify the Record

A representative from 1942 Restaurant and Lounge confirmed in a statement to Game Changers that their business was not targeted by the City of McDonough Police Department or former Councilwoman Kam Varner.

“There has been no targeting or unfair treatment from the City or former Councilwoman Varner. We’re focused on serving our customers and continuing to be a positive part of McDonough’s business community,” said the 1942 Restaurant and Lounge spokesperson. The spokesperson did acknowledge that there had been a noise complaint involving loud music, which may have disturbed nearby residents. However, the matter is being reviewed by city officials and is currently pending city council review for resolution.

Allegations at The GOAT Sports Bar and Lounge

Sources also confirm that a separate incident involving The GOAT Sports Bar and Lounge and the former councilwoman appears to stem from a personal dispute, rather than any coordinated action by city officials or police. Reports indicate that the matter has escalated to a pending lawsuit involving the City of McDonough, which remains under legal review.

Our Commitment to Facts Over Rumors

At Game Changers Media Network, we take our responsibility to the community seriously. Our commitment is simple: Change Starts With Conversation by reporting the facts as they are confirmed — not as they are rumored. As of this publication, no other local business owners have come forward with verified claims of being targeted by either former Councilwoman Kam Varner or the McDonough Police Department.

We will continue to follow this story and provide factual, balanced updates as more information becomes available.
