City of McDonough: Progress in Motion Through SPLOST and T-SPLOST
The City of McDonough continues to move forward with renewed energy and purpose, enhancing infrastructure, improving public spaces, and strengthening community safety. Through dedicated SPLOST and TSPLOST initiatives, the city is addressing long-standing needs while investing in projects that improve daily life for residents, support economic growth, and build a stronger foundation for the future.

Enhancing Parks and Public Spaces
At Jonesboro Road Park, safety and accessibility remain top priorities. Newly installed lighting, provided in partnership with Central Georgia EMC (CGEMC), ensures that residents can safely enjoy the park during evening hours while discouraging illegal dumping. In addition, the installation of a new CXT prefabricated restroom facility is underway, expanding amenities and making the park more family friendly. Ongoing coordination with Georgia Power and other partners is helping to keep construction on schedule and aligned with community expectations.
At Geranium Park, the City is creating a passive recreation area that will offer residents a peaceful, nature-based environment for relaxation and community gathering. An RFP for architectural concept design, developed by Bruce B. Holmes the City’s SPLOST Project Oversight Coordinator, will help shape the long-term vision for this space. The park’s design emphasizes sustainable development, open green space, and enhanced walkability, all of which will contribute to neighborhood property values and promote health and wellness for McDonough citizens.
Nearby, Alexander Park West is also seeing major improvements, including upgraded pedestrian safety features and a redesigned park entrance. These enhancements will improve both access and traffic flow, creating a safer and more welcoming experience for park visitors.

Transportation and Connectivity
Across McDonough, transportation and pedestrian safety are central to the city’s SPLOST and T-SPLOST commitments. The Highway 155 Sidewalk Project has reached final design completion and will soon move into the bidding phase for construction. Once finished, the sidewalk will provide a continuous, protected walkway from Keys Ferry Road to Racetrack Road, improving walkability and ensuring that students and families can travel safely to and from school.
Meanwhile, the McDonough Parkway continues to advance under TSPLOST funding, providing improved mobility, reduced congestion, and enhanced access for daily commuters. The City is also collaborating closely with Henry County on several regional TSPLOST initiatives, ensuring alignment across jurisdictions while maintaining a focus on McDonough’s unique transportation needs and growth priorities.

Investing in Public Safety
Public safety remains a cornerstone of McDonough’s progress. In the Avalon area, the City is developing the new South Police Precinct, a major SPLOST VI investment designed to enhance response times and expand coverage for the city’s growing population. All bids for architectural design have been received and are currently under review for final award. Once complete, the precinct will serve as a critical hub for law enforcement operations and a visible symbol of McDonough’s ongoing commitment to community safety.

Addressing Longstanding Infrastructure Challenges
One of the City’s most meaningful and transformative efforts is the Blacksville Drainage Project. For decades, residents in this historic neighborhood have endured flooding and stormwater issues after heavy rains. Today, with approximately 60 percent of the design phase complete, McDonough is closer than ever to delivering long-term relief. The project team is engaging directly with residents to gather feedback, refine plans, and ensure the final design meets both engineering standards and community expectations. Upon completion, the project will significantly improve property conditions, road safety, and overall quality of life for the Blacksville community.
Building for the Future
Through careful planning, strong partnerships, and dedicated project management, the City of McDonough is turning vision into action. Each SPLOST and T-SPLOST project, whether a sidewalk, park, drainage improvement, or public safety facility, represents the city’s steadfast commitment to serve its residents, preserve its character, and prepare for continued growth.
Together, these investments are transforming McDonough into a safer, stronger, and more connected city, one project at a time.
